BIBLE. — [In Greek.] Novum Testamentum. From the Royal Library. Paris, Robert Estienne, [November 7], 1546. 2 parts in one in-16 volume, old red morocco, blind-stamped fillet, decorated spine, morocco lining of the same color, gilt interior wheel, gilt edges (Binding circa 1700). First edition of this pocket Bible printed in Greek by Robert Estienne, also known as the “O mirificam” edition after the opening words of the dedication to Francis I. The humanist printer had planned to publish a small-format edition of the entire Greek Bible, modeled after the Hebrew Bible (1545–1546), but the project was abandoned. (Renouard, Estienne, p. 65.) Copy bound in a lined morocco binding, likely executed in Boyet’s workshop. An old, almost faded handwritten bookplate on the title page. A handwritten bookplate on an endpaper: “Bibliotheca Bridger.” From the Mortimer L. Schiff Library (III, 1938, no. 2041). Spine worn, hinges rubbed.
