Lajouane, 1891. 447 pp. Beautiful cont. red full mor., raised bands, dec. gilt back, sides gilt with black and floral cornerpieces, ruled in gilt & w. inside dentelles, a.e.g. NOTE:First edition of the literary memoirs of Martin Garcia Mérou (1862-1905), Argentine Ambassador to the United States in 1896 and 1901. This copy is signed and with dedication to Cassie Julian-James by the author: 'Washington, dated February 27, 1897' on first blank. Cassie Julian James was the founder of the Smithsonian's First Ladies Collection and her husband was an aide to G.K. Warren in the Civil War. With bookplate of Cassie Julian James pasted on inside front cover.
