BOOK: Adjutant General's Library, Gaines v. Scott

US Adjutant General's own copy of the 1837 "Proceedings of the Military Court of Inquiry, in the case of Major General (Winfield) Scott and Major General (Edmund P.) Gaines." The two had a long-standing feud over seniority and leadership in the early days of the US Army, both being veterans of the War of 1812, Seminole War and others. Measures 9 1/4" x 6". Raised bands, gilt titles and 3/4 leather binding with marbled boards. Very good condition with straight and tight boards, minor shelfwear, and some foxing. Adjutant General's Library stamp to title page. Part of a large estate collection of Florida antiques, some of which is offered in today's auction.
