Map of Hainaut County taken from the 3rd part of the famous "Civitates orbis terrarum" by Braun and Hogenberg (French ed., 1st variant given by van der Krogt: last line with "dict... d'Haynault"). First and ideal representation of the province as a garden ("Wapenkaart/Jardin d'armoiries") surrounded by a palisade or wall punctuated by 22 cities represented as towers, with the great arms of Hainaut in the upper part and the city of Mons as capital in the lower part.
