The Fernando de Noronha archipelago is made up of 21 islands and islets in the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 220 miles from the Brazilian coast. Fernando de Noronha is also the name of the main island, which has a very recognisable rock formation. Since 2001 it has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The pen annotation reads: "Vue de l’isle de Fernand de Norona [Fernando de Noronha] situé par les 3[degrees] 55 de latitude sud et 34[degrees] 58 de longitude ovest de Paris Restant ay NE a 5 [?] avoir de 3 ou 4 mille Pied de ----- la Jeanne D’Arc de Nantes, Revenant de Bahia Brasil"
