Hong Kong Harbor with British Man-o-War, a Sail/Steam Frigate, American and British Freighters and many Junks, wonderfully detailed, with the original Bund on shore visible through field of masts; oil on panel, signed lower right, OS: 32" x 52", SS: 21 1/2" x 41 1/2". Fine condition. Provenance: From Private Collection, Harpswell, ME. Although Brian Coole is entirely self-taught, his ship paintings have been compared to those of Fitz Henry Lane (MA, 1804-1865). His subjects include America’s Cup , historical harbor scenes, naval battles and formal ship's portraits.
