BRITISH HONDURAS. British Honduras - Mexico. Dollar (6 Shillings 1 Penny), ND (1810-20). PCGS AU-50 Gold Shield; Countermark: AU Details.

KM-2; Prid-2. Late die state countermark. Raised crowned script "GR" within oval indent on an 1818-MoJJ Mexico bust 8 Reales of Ferdinand VII. RARE in this state of preservation. Countermark showing signs of degradation somewhat unevenly applied with several characteristics, die chip at the base of the left leg of the "R" and another die chip between the "G" and "R" with a faint vertical crack leading to the back base of the upper portion of the "G". Quite a handsome representative of the type far nicer then normally encountered on a high grade host coin displaying lovely old envelope tone with mottled slate patina in the peripherals. This issue usually appears on the market in well circulated conditions, many of which that have severe defects, and as such should be considered a real treat for world countermark collectors.
