BRITISH SCHOOL (EARLY 18TH CENTURY) A collection of drawings of London street scenes and buildings, including a view of Regent Street pencil and ink 14 x 20 cm; 22 x 17 cm; 21.5 x 19.3 cm; 17.5 x 22.5 cm; 22 x 15.2 cm (5 sheets) Regent Street is one of London's most famous thoroughfares, located in the West End of London. It was laid out between 1811 and 1825 under the direction of the architect John Nash as part of the development of the Regent's Park area. The street was named after George, the Prince Regent, who later became King George IV. Regent Street is known for its elegant Georgian architecture and was designed to be a grand ceremonial route connecting the Prince Regent's residence at Carlton House (now demolished) with Regent's Park. The street's layout is characterised by its sweeping curve, which was innovative for its time and remains a distinctive feature today.Click here to share:
