BRONZE SCULPTURE
BRONZE SCULPTURE
Bronze figure of a chubby, child-like Eros in the pose of a rider. Roman Imperial Period, 1st - 2nd century A.D. Attractive green patina, some fingers and right foot broken. Separately worked left wing missing. Right wing partially bent and with some feathers missing. Two holes in the feet probably identify the piece as part of a tintinnabulum, an ancient bell, showing Eros riding on a phallus with little bells hanging down from chains fixed at his feet.
