BULLE OGIER AND JEAN-PIERRE KALFON Paris Rooftop and a Kiss...
BULLE OGIER AND JEAN-PIERRE KALFON
Paris Rooftop and a Kiss
"L'Amour fou," a 1969 film by Jacques Rivette.
Photograph, silver print on vintage card stock, annotated on the back.
20.8 x 30 cm.
Staple holes on two corners.
Note: A kiss on the rooftops of Paris inspired by Jacques Rivette’s *L’Amour fou*, filmed in 1967 and released in France in 1969. Bulle Ogier and Jean-Pierre Kalfon play Claire and Sébastien, a couple whose relationship unravels during rehearsals for Racine’s *Andromaque*. Sébastien, the director and actor playing Pyrrhus, excludes Claire from the role of Hermione; she gradually withdraws into their shared apartment, where their love descends into jealousy, games, and destruction. Running over four hours, the film alternates between theatrical rehearsals shot on 16 mm and the couple’s private moments filmed on 35 mm. Rivette gives his actors ample room for improvisation, thereby blurring the boundaries between theater, cinema, and private life.
