BURMA, late 17th–early 18th century.
A Buddha wearing a large winged crown. Seated on a tall, tiered pedestal, he makes the gesture of taking the earth as a witness. Only the framework and a mounting ring remain of this fragmentary pedestal, which exhibits a very poetic form of erosion. The chest is adorned with a broad pectoral plate.
Red and black lacquered wood with areas of gilding. Height: 145 cm.
Missing sections on the pedestal; beautiful natural patina.
