Arting, gilt to spine slightly rubbed, minor wear to jacket along joints, and at corners. McClurg" in one line to spine, and no acorn. Burroughs's greatest literary creation, Tarzan of the Apes was initially turned down by publisher McClurg. When its popularity exploded with it's publication in All-Story magazine, and subsequently in newspapers across the country, McClurg came back to Burroughs and wanted to publish it. Tarzan quickly became one of the most important and well known works in popular fiction, spawning 25 years of sequels, numerous films and adaptations throughout the 20th-century.
