Bactrian Carnelian & Agate Bead Necklace

Central Asia, Bactria, ca. 2000 BCE. An attractive necklace of over 80 ancient carnelian and banded agate beads, each hand-carved and drilled in spherical, barrel, lozenge, and faceted shapes. The beads are strung in a balanced arrangement with the petite beads near the terminal ends and the largest pendant beads placed at the center of the strand. The carnelian stones present warm hues of citrine and vermilion and the agates are creamy white and beige with brown and orange bands. The polished surfaces are lustrous, and all are strung with a modern push clasp as a wearable necklace! Size of strand: 17.25" L (43.8 cm); largest bead: 0.25" in diameter (0.6 cm)

Provenance: private Corpus Christi, Texas, USA estate collection, acquired 1960s to 1970s
