Company name is incorporated into a parchment vignette with ships in the background. Printed by Hosford & Sons. In August 1884, the company was involved in an early Civil Rights lawsuit. A group of African-Americans boarded the company's steamer Sue. The ship's chambermaid told the group that the captain decided they could not occupy the first class cabin because the ship's regulations prohibited African Americans from that part of the vessel. The group protested by staying up all night in the ship's saloon. When they returned to Baltimore. they filed a lawsuit against the Baltimore, Chesapeake, and Richmond Steamboat Company.
