Baluch Pictorial All Wool Prayer Rug

Hand-knotted wool pictorial prayer rug of Baluch type. The camel-ground field is centered by a stylized tree-of-life beneath an arch, flanked by paired bird forms and stepped hooked panels, the lower field with rows of flowering plants between vertical bands of orange, red and ivory lozenges; the upper register worked with rose-pink domed structures and dark buildings. Indigo main border of red geometric lattice. Flatwoven ends with fringe. Persian, ca. 1970's

Condition: Even pile with light overall wear, slightly reduced in the camel ground; colors strong. Selvage overcast worn, with scattered loss and loose fibers along both long edges. Flatwoven end bands intact; fringe shortened and abraded, more so at one end. Back even; no holes, patches or reweaving observed. Good.
