Baluch
late 19th century, 161 x 81 cm, North East Persia, Khorasan, Torbat-e Haydari
This blue-ground Baluch is a rare example featuring a narrative field design. Peacocks and tiny quadrupeds are standing between rosettes, floral cartouches and serrated diagonal leaves. It is probably a weaving by the Salar Khani tribe. The quarter sections of the white gul in the corners of the field are a further indication of this.
BOUCHER, JEFF W., Baluchi Woven Treasures. Alexandria, VA 1989, pl. 16
Condition
Corroded brown sections. Cut sides and replaced selvedges.
