As one of the foremost producer-directors of our time, you have won acclaim from both your peers and the general public, and your work has come to symbolize much of the best our country has to offer. Your films help us re-examine our values and better understand the importance of cherishing our freedoms—no wonder they have won 85 Oscar nominations and 16 Oscars…so far. George Bush and I congratulate you on this deserved and fitting tribute to your brilliant career, and we wish you continued success in the years to come."
