Barbara Keel (American), Baby Harp Seal, Color Offset Lithograph

[ translate ]

Barbara Keel is an American wildlife artist associated with Auburn, Alabama, whose work centers on closely observed animal subjects. Active for more than six decades, she became the first woman to design Alabama’s state duck stamp and received repeated recognition at the Atlanta Wildlife Art Exhibition. A 1977 profile identified wildlife as her specialty and pastel as her principal medium.

Baby Harp Seal is a color photomechanical offset lithograph on paper, printed by Litho-Krome of Columbus, Georgia, and published by Moonrise of Auburn, Alabama. The image reproduces a white harp-seal pup resting on snow-covered ice against a softly blended blue background. Printed beneath the image are the title and artist’s name, followed by “From The Private Collection Of Mr. And Mrs. John L. Hartman, III,” with printer and publisher information at the lower corners. Sheet measures approximately 24 x 18 inches. Condition shows light handling and edge wear with minor soft creasing; image presents well. Provenance of Martin and Enid Gleich.
