Artist Statement
"I describe my art as Tranquil and Tumultuous, like the eclectic music I listen to and the nature I am surrounded by. My inspirations among the masters would be Monet and Rothko.

I love the freedom I feel when I am in my element. Moved by the music and lyrics that create the drama, and brilliance of colors and textures in my garden, culminate the harmonious balance I need to create. Music and nature are my escape, my hands to canvas my release."

Born on the East Coast, raised on the West Coast, Barbara now calls Southern California home. From the tale of her inner mermaid to the wings of her emerging butterfly, she has morphed into an expressive, creative being once captive, now free.

Barbara formerly immersed herself in designing special effect finishes and textures where she designed patterns, styles and application techniques of various architectural elements on many varying surfaces. She collaborated with top West Coast designers and leading home builders in the design of composition boards for a variety of projects. A major designer approached her with the opportunity to produce an abstract triptych of panels using those very products in a different medium. This creative endeavor continues to have an impact on her current work.

Barbara's style is contemporary abstract expressionism with her touch of what she likes to call a "Monet-ish" quality. Respectful of earth and her creatures, she uses Eco-friendly products consisting of translucent ground glass plasters, luminous paints, sandy textures and various metals to produce her mixed media originals.

Ultimately left to the interpretation of the beholder, her largest body of work consists of coastal abstracts with suggestions of horizons to landscapes. Barbara's latest series implements reclaimed coffee grounds and filters creating 67a mixed media of collage effect applied on various substrates of canvas, wood and metal.

Nature and music inspire her creations. Barbara captures the essence of song titles through her abstracts. From her soulful connection, and eclectic mix of music like "I Walk the Line" by Johnny Cash, "Ballroom Blitz" by Sweet, to "Changes" by David Bowie and "Nights in White Satin" by The Moody Blues spawns this duality of artworks.
