Barry (Charles) - Trafalgar Square Planning A collection of four autograph letters signed ('Charles Barry'), all addressed to Messrs. Macdonald & Leslie of Aberdeen, mentioning Lord Duncannon and regarding orders for Granite for Trafalgar Square, in particular for "the front or south side of the square", one saying "I wish if possible to tempt the Government to execute Two Fountains and Basins proposed for the Embellishment of Trafalgar Square in Granite and should be glad therefore if you would make me the lowest tender for them that is possible by way of inducement- I send enclosed a tracing of what is proposed and should like to have tenders for the work in both the Red and Blue Granites with a recommendation from you as to which of these Granites should be used", the final letter discussing "estimates for granite for a pedestal for the Wellington Statue now proposed to be placed on the Parade in St. James Park, and for which I have orders to prepare a design", 11 pages, 4to, Foley Place, Westminster and Drayton Manor, 18 May 1840- 26 November 1846 (4) ***The exterior of letter dated 21st August 1840 features a Great Britain 1840 Penny Black
