Bartolomeo Biscaino - The Nativity
Description: The Nativity, with Christ being adored by angels. Signed 'Biscainus in f' on stone at right. Bartolomeo Biscaino (1629-1657): Painter (rare), draughtsman and etcher. Born in Genoa in 1629. Initially taught by his father, Giovanni Andrea Biscaino, in the late 1640s he entered the workshop of Valerio Castello. Had an excellent reputation as a draughtsman and etcher. His later work, like this one was greatly influenced by Parmigianino. He died prematurely in a plague.
