Albumen photograph, 6.875 x 4.375 in., mounted to 8.75 x 6.125 in., featuring Battery Reno complete with soldiers, Parrott rifles, ammunition, sandbags, and earthworks, ca summer 1863. Credited on mount to Haas & Peale, Morris Island & Hilton Head, SC. Attached paper label reads, "No. 27.—Battery Reno. / Two 100-pounders, and one 8-inch Parrot [sic] Rifle. Breaching battery / against Sumter." Central in the photograph is an officer standing alone atop a large bunker and looking out over the battery. The Parrott rifles, under the command of Captain August W. Colwell, 3rd Rhode Island Heavy Artillery, can be seen to the right and left of the bunker.
Condition Report: Photograph somewhat toned, with light surface soil and spotting. Mat with discoloration, adhesive residue, and light wear to edges and corners.
