Warder, T.B. and Catlett, Jas. M. Battle of Young's Branch, or, Manassas Plain, Fought July 21, 1861. With maps of the Battle field made by actual survey...Also, an Account of the Battle. Also, the Battle Ground of the 18th July 1861, with General Beauregard's Report of Said Battle. Richmond: Enquirer Book and Job Press, 1862. 16mo, printed paper wraps, 156pp, 1p errata.

Map of the country occupied by the Federal and Confederate Armies on the 18th & 21st July 1861, by Warder & Catlett, Surveyors & Publishers. Lithographed by Hoyer & Ludwig, Richmond, VA. 11.25 x 15.5 in. Contour depicted by hachures.

Battle Field of Young's Branch or Manassa Plains. Battle fought July 21, 1861. Linear Survey by Warder & Catlett, Surveyors and Publishers. Lithographed by Hoyer & Ludwig, Richmond. 19.75 x 22.5 in. Contours indicated by hachures. Features indicated by drawings (oak woodland, pine, buildings, etc.). With units involved listed along the sides.

Previous owner's identification on ffep. Supposedly a Confederate soldier, but HDS shows 4 full pages of George W. Taylors serving with the Confederacy. He lists Charlottesville as his location, and was working on the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway. Consignor identifies him as a 17-year-old clerk whose enlistment was initially rejected because of age. He apparently talked a recruiter into taking him in the 17th VA Infantry, but he had a frail constitution, being on the sick roles by October and hospitalized by November. He disappears from the records, being listed as AWOL a few months later. It is possible he was DOD.

Rare Confederate imprint, especially with both maps.
Condition Report: A few water stains and toning on first (smaller) map. A hole ca 1/2 inch on larger map. Front cover with corner missing. Rear cover missing, with tape repair of spine. Handling wear, scattered foxing and toning.
