Bauer, M.A.J. (1867-1932). Benares. Large etching, 1905, 55,2x67,5 cm., signed "M. Bauer" and "No.6" in pencil, signed "M. Bauer" and "1899" in the plate, on Japanese, framed. - Not examined outside frame, but sm. dam. spot (paper flaw?) visible in sky area to the right. = Van Wisselingh 232, 100 impressions. "This plate was finished in 1899, but only ten or twelve impressions had been taken when an accident happened to the copper-plate. Six years passed before the plate was retouched, and the remainder of the edition printed." SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE IV.
