Publisher:John Kelly

Description:

[19] mimeographed leaves stapled with an illustrated cover on blue paper (with no rear cover, as issued.) 28x21.5 cm (11x8½").

Rare early issue of this Beat scene periodical, considered to be the voice of the Beat movement on the West Coast. The issue includes four poems by Richard Brautigan not collected elsewhere: The American Submarine, A Postcard from the Bridge, That Girl, and The Sink. Included as well as works form Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Allen Ginsberg, ruth weiss, Philp Whalen and others.

Bob Kaufman began Beatitude magazine with John Kelley, and William Margolis. Few local poets were considered acceptable by the established publishers of that time, and many had their first appearances in Beatitude. Although the first incarnation of the magazine only published 17 issues, it has had a lasting impact on the Beat literary movement.
Condition Report: Some general wear and a small stain to cover, a few areas of toning to blank page at rear, mild crease to interior at upper corner; very good.
