Beatles 'Third State' Stereo Butcher Album

[ translate ]

The Beatles Yesterday and Today stereo 'third state' butcher cover (Capitol, 1966). This 'third state' version features the 'butcher' cover, the previously affixed 'trunk' cover pasteover having been professionally peeled from the album jacket to reveal the butcher cover underneath. In very good to fine condition, with overall creasing to the peel, which also bears a stain to the lower right corner, and several tears which have been repaired on the reverse; the album itself is in fine condition. The record and original Capitol inner sleeve are not included. _x000D_

Within days of releasing this miscellany of previous hits, Capitol recalled all copies in response to retailers' negative reactions to the original macabre cover image. The recalled copies were 'retrofitted' with a new pictorial flat, pasted over the first, featuring an innocuous image of the boys posed around a steamer trunk; these have frequently been peeled away by collectors to reveal the infamous butcher image below. Stereo covers are much rarer than the mono versions as they were produced in far fewer quantities.
