signed and dated 'Beauford Delaney 1961' lower right
gouache and ink on paper
65.6 x 50.1 cm (25 7/8 x 19 3/4 in.)
Executed in 1961, in France.
Condition Report:
This work is in very good condition. The edges of the sheet are deckled, deemed inherent to the artist's materials used and studio technique. There is minor rippling towards the vertical edges, deemed inherent to the mounting method and only visible on close inspection. There is minor bumping to the corners and edges in places, a minor soft crease with associated minor linear paint cracking towards the upper left corner and soft linear creasing with associated minor paint cracking to the upper right horizontal edge, all only visible on close inspection. There are occasional minor paint losses, occasional flattening to the thicker impasto in places and occasional minor networks of craquelure, predominantly to the centre and centre-left, all only visible on close inspection. There is a minor surface inconsistency to the centre with associated minor paint cracking (approx. 1 cm in length), deemed inherent to historic inpainting, only visible on close inspection and which fluoresces when examined under ultraviolet light. Otherwise, there are no apparent condition issues with this work. The work is framed under glass in a dark brown wooden frame, presented float-mounted and attached to its backing in places from the reverse.
