Beautiful Bizen pottery vase - Ceramic - Imai Masayuki 今井政之 (1930-2023)
- Japan - Shōwa period (1926-1989)

When it comes to Imai's works, many of them feature techniques such as Taidei-sai and Zogan. However, this vase is a rare piece that focuses on a simple expression. It stands out for the contrast between the unglazed and painted parts.

Artist: Imai Masayuki 今井政之 (1930-2023) was born in 1930 in Osaka. He developed a unique pottery technique called "Taidei-sai 苔泥彩" and carved out his own niche in contemporary pottery. Renowned for his mastery in "Zogan 象嵌", that is, inlaying intricate patterns of flowers and fish, he earned international acclaim. Remarkably, he served as a judge for the Japan Fine Arts Exhibition at a young age. By 1976, he became a council member, later advancing to a board member by 1998, solidifying his status as a prominent figure in the Japan Fine Arts Exhibition. In 1993, he was honored with the Kyoto Prefecture Cultural Award and the Order of the Blue Ribbon for his exceptional contributions. He also held positions as a member of the International Academy of Ceramics and as a director of the Kyoto Cultural Foundation. Recognized for his significant cultural contributions, he was named a Person of Cultural Merit in 2011 and bestowed the Order of Culture in 2018.
