Beautiful Roman Glass Bowl / Patella

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A lovely aqua-colored patella glass bowl that sits on a rounded ring and concave bottom. The semi translucent body flares up to a rib and into a wide rolled lip. The deep basin has a projecting central kick. This is a beautiful piece of Roman glassware that would have been used for dining. Size: 6.375" W x 2.625" H (16.2 cm x 6.7 cm)

Condition Report: Stable fissure near base. Vessel base possesses a pontil scar or mark which indicates that it was free-blown. The absence of such a mark would suggest that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time. Nicks, surface wear, abrasions consummate with age. Overall a nice piece with rainbow iridescence throughout.
