Beautiful Roman Glass Vessel
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A beautiful glass jar that is free blown from translucent, olive-green glass. The spherical vessel has a rounded base with a rough pontil scar, broad walls with a rounded shoulder, and a thick conical neck with a narrow mouth. Fiery layers of silvery and rainbow-hued iridescence have formed across the jar and brilliantly accentuate its yellow-green color. Size: 3.625" W x 4.3" H (9.2 cm x 10.9 cm); 4.7" H (11.9 cm) on included custom stand.
