Beautiful mask from the Yaure tribe - Wood - Yaure - Côte d'Ivoire

Very refined mask of the Yaure tribe. The Yaure, of Akan descent, are best known for their eye catching masks. Although they show elements of their neighbours, the Baule and the Guro, there are some distinctive features that make these masks particularly attractive. The most common of these elements are jagged edges or additions to the head. This mask has an extremely refined carved little head on top of its head. The face is expressive with a narrow carved nose, small mouth and slightly split eyelids. The forehead is beautifully carved. Beautiful black/brown shiny patina. The face is circled with a narrow edge. Size 32 cm. The face is 24 cm.
