Rare large caliber 12mm dubbel action pin fire revolver,with ribbed barrel with fixed front sight and notch rear sight on the bridge, markings on the barrel. Six-shot rotating cylinder with black powder Belgian ELG proof mark. Closed frame and protected cartridge pins in the cylinder. decorated with a floral etched decor on frame and cylinder. Made by the famous high quality maker August Francotte. Under the barrel is the ejector,the grips are hand checked walnut,with no cracks or chips. This revolver was well advanced beyond any of the American made revolvers of that period,and often used on the western frontier and American civil war. This revolver has a loading gate with a spring operated swing up door with engraved initiales F. A= Francotte August for quick and easy loading, the ejector pin is mounted on the right side to eject the spent cartridges,trigger guard and backstrap are iron,grips secured with a single screw,swivel ring on the buttplare.
