Bell shrine - Bronze - Late Meiji period/Taishô period (Early 20th century)
Heavy bronze temple bell 梵鐘 (bonshô) of traditional shape with an appealing echoing sound when struck and a beautiful brown patina.
At the top, the handle 竜頭 (ryûzu) is crafted in the form of two mirrored dragon heads. Around the upper portion of the bell, the pronounced bosses 乳 (chi) are arranged in three rows of four. Surrounded by embossed cartouches and with a flower-shaped striking panel 撞座 (tsuki’za) .
Period: Japan – Late Meiji period/Taishô period (Early 20th century) .

Height 51. 5 cm, Diameter 30. 7 cm.
Weight 21. 5 kg.
In a very good original condition. No inscriptions. The beautiful patina and some colour-variations are a sign that this bell has actually hung outside for quite some time (and thus has been used functionally) . Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
