BELLMER Hans was born on March 13, 1902 in Kattowitz and died on February 23, 1975 in Paris.

He is a Franco-German painter, photographer, engraver, designer and sculptor. He is one of the major artists of surrealism.

In 1925 and 1926, he went to Paris, where he frequented the Dadaists and the Surrealists. When the Nazis came to power in Germany in 1933, he decided to no longer be useful to the state. In 1934, he created his most famous work, La Poupée. His work was described as “degenerate art” by the Nazis. It was partially published, texts and photographs, in the magazine Le Minotaure, under the title Poupée: variations sur le montage d'une minor articulated, in December 1934. Then in 1938 in Cahiers d'art. According to the artist, the woman is like an anagram. He moved to Paris in 1938 and participated in Parisian surrealist exhibitions. In 1949, he created the second Doll, and published the photographs in a work entitled “The Doll Games” accompanied by a poem by Paul Éluard. All of these photographs are painted in aniline by his friend Christian d’Orgeix and himself. In 1953, he met Unica Zürn (1916-1970) who worked alongside him on the plastic anagram, and suffered from depression and schizophrenia. In 1958, he won the William and Noma Copley Foundation Prize.

He exhibited in 1936 at the International Exhibition of Surrealism in London, in 1937 at the International Exhibition of Surrealism in New York, in 1937 at the International Exhibition of Surrealism in Tokyo, in 1938 at the International Exhibition of Surrealism at the Gallery Fine Arts of Paris. in 1947 Surrealism at the Galerie Maeght in Paris, in 195 at the International Exhibition of Surrealism in Saarbrücken, in 1959 at the International Exhibition of Surrealism at the Galerie Daniel Cordier in Paris, in 1967 at Kunstamt in Berlin-Tempelhof in Berlin , in 2010 at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin, Double Sexus: Bellmer - Bourgeois.
