A catalogue raisonné of Ben Nicholson’s paintings and reliefs is currently being prepared, and the authors encourage owners to be in touch. Please write to Rachel Smith, c/o Sotheby’s Modern & Postwar British Art, Sotheby’s, 34-35 New Bond Street, London, W1A 2AA or email info@bncr.org.uk.

Condition Report:
The boards both appear sound. The central painted board is fully attached to the backboard. Relief elements are securely attached. The edges of the backboard are slightly uneven with a small loss to the upper right corner. Overall the work appears to be in good condition.

There is some rubbing and there are some small nicks to the edges of the central board, with some associated losses mainly to the lower edge and corners. There are a few small lines of craquelure. There are a few tiny spots of loss elsewhere to the central image. There are some small specks of dirt and some light marks to the surface of the central element. There are some apparently inherent workings and marks to the backboard. Some adhesive remnants are very lightly visible.

Inspection under Ultraviolet light reveals some florescent elements but no obvious signs of retouching.

The work is presented with a white wooden frame.
