Bengt Lindström (1925–2008)
Bengt Lindström (1925–2008)
Bröderna, circa 1975; oil on canvas, signed lower right and titled on the back; 33 x 41.2 cm. This work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the Bengt Lindström Committee
Condition Report: Framed This painting exemplifies the Expressionist fervor and sculptural power that characterize the Swedish artist’s work. Through a painterly texture of exceptional density, worked into thick, sculpted impasto applied directly to the canvas, Lindström brings forth a totemic figure with distorted features and bulging eyes. The composition is animated by a fierce dynamism in which electric blue clashes with fiery reds and bursts of green and yellow, evoking the ruggedness of Nordic myths and folklore. This vibrant work reflects his quest for a primitive and spontaneous art, free from academic conventions, in which the creative violence of the painterly gesture gives form to an almost wild psychological presence.
