"The Big Jump and Other Stories" by Benjamin Elkin, illustrated by Katherine Evans, published by Beginner Books A Division of Random House, New York, 1958. Stated Book Club Edition. The "Beginner Books. I Can Read It All By Myself" with Cat in the Hat logo was a book club for the early readers founded in 1958 by Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel). Points of the first edition, early printing: copyright 1958 without any other printings listed, no isbn, no barcode.

Illustrated hard boards [a little wear and soiling, '17' is written on front board and top of the spine]; 6.3/4" x 9.1/4"; illustrated endpapers, "Nancy Harris" is written on the front endpaper, the back endpaper has a residue from the removed label [see photo]; 64 pages, a little soiling and wear, very good condition.

The book contains three stories that details the adventures of the King and a young boy named Ben told in folk-tale style:

1. The Big Jump: Only the King could have a dog for a pet, but Ben and the pup manage to change that rule...

2. Something New: If the good king does not bring the bad king an item that he has never seen before, then the bad king will take all of the good king’s gold. Ben then comes up with a plan that might help the good king keep his gold...

3. The Wish Sack: One day, an old man decided to give Ben a small wish sack that will grant anyone’s wishes. Ben did not notice that the bad king had witnessed all of this and the bad king decided to steal the sack from Ben. So, the bad king sent his soldiers to Ben’s house and had them steal Ben’s wish sack. Ben tried to go after the soldiers to get his sack back, but the good king came by and told Ben to wait until nightfall so that they could properly enact a plan to get the wish sack back...
