Condition: Small loss to u.l. corner, mounted to paperboard, not examined out of frame.
N.B. After training in the Parisian portrait studio of Man Ray and becoming acquainted with the documentarian of Paris, Eugène Atget, Berenice Abbott returned to New York and began to photograph the city for what would become her magnum opus, Changing New York. Photographed from the upper levels of the Empire State Building, Abbott's iconic New York at Night was shot with an extended, fifteen-minute exposure that captures the aura of a city on the brink of a massive shift toward modernization.
