This print, on paper with a subtle texture, is in generally excellent condition. The margin edges are worn with occasional tiny losses to the emulsion.
On the reverse, the following is written in pencil in an unidentified hand: 'PF97455,' '(010),' 'P.P.#1.855,' and 'TR:1774-2010.'
Catalogue Note:
In the February 1940 issue of Popular Photography, Berenice Abbott commented, “Suppose we took a thousand negatives and made a gigantic montage; a myriad-faceted picture combining the elegances, the squalor, the curiosities, the monuments, the sad faces, the triumphant faces, the power, the irony, the strength, the decay, the past, the present, the future of a city–that would be my favorite picture."
