Born in Russia, he came with his family to America as a young boy. He studied and taught at the Art Students League and at the NY School of Design in NYC. He has taught in the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area and directed his own art school, the former Lyle Art Studio, in Newark. He was on the teaching staff of the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts and conducted invitational workshops for advanced painters.
