Gianfranco Frattini (1926 – 2004) was an Italian architect and designer.
He is part of the generation that formed the Italian design movement at the end of the fifties and during the sixties.
Frattini graduated in Architecture at the Polytechnic of Milan in 1953.
He opened his own professional studio in Milan, after working in the studio of his teacher and mentor Giò Ponti. His collaboration with Cesare Cassina for his eponymous company began in 1954, followed by collaborations with many other industrialists, such as Bernini, Arteluce, Acerbis, Fantoni, Artemide (for which, among other products, he designed the historic Boalum lamp with Livio Castiglioni) , Luci, Knoll, Lema and many others. In 1956 he co-founded the Association for Industrial Design and throughout his career he worked in both industrial design and architecture, focusing in particular on interiors.

In this auction we present a valuable pair of coffee tables/bedside tables, entirely made of noble walnut wood, usable for both a living room and a bedroom.
The design of these furnishings is particularly effective with the characteristic foot typical of Frattini's design for Bernini between the 50s and 60s. Likewise, the shape of the handle for opening the drawers also recalls the other pieces in the collection.
The bedside tables are in good general condition of use. Solid, robust and totally intact, they show only slight signs of age.

Owned by the Bernini family, the company, active for more than sixty years, belongs to the history of Italian entrepreneurship and immediately stood out for its care in the choice and processing of wood, a material that becomes a fundamental and characterizing element of G. B. Bernini. All of its production, even before the elegance and particularity of the design, focuses on the research and use of fine quality woods, maintaining constant care in this and dedicating special attention to even the smallest construction details. In the fifties, under the guidance of the two brothers Fausto and Giancarlo Bernini, the company abandoned its traditional footprint and, pursuing, with composed foresight, the path of "modern furniture", availed itself of the collaboration of important architects including remembered Giò Ponti, Gianfranco Frattini, Silvio Coppola, Achille Castiglioni, Carlo Scarpa, Gaetano Pesce, Joe Colombo.
