Beryl var. Emerald on Quartz Kagem Emerald Mine, Kafubu emerald mining district, Lufwanyama District, Copperbelt Province, Zambia 8.2 x 5.5 x 4.3 cm (3.23 x 2.17 x 1.69 in) A small group of Emerald crystals is attractively perched on a massive, colorless Quartz matrix. The Emeralds display a rich, gemmy green color, with two crystals being doubly terminated; the largest is oriented horizontally and measures 4.3 centimeters in length. When viewed under polarized light, the crystals exhibit distinct pleochroism, shifting from green to blue. Small associations of Schorl and Chlorite are included within the Quartz, creating scattered black and green accents across the otherwise colorless matrix.
