Bette Davis Collection of Signed Photos & a Cover!
Archive
Desirable collection of four Bette Davis signed pieces, comprising three photographs and a First Day of Issue cover, each boldly signed by the legendary Academy Award-winning actress. The photographs include a glamorous full-length black-and-white portrait of Davis in an evening gown, signed prominently in black ink; a vintage illustrated portrait identifying her with the 1935 Warner Bros. film "Dangerous," signed across the lower right; and a striking early studio portrait of a young Davis, signed in blue ink and later enhanced with a United States Bette Davis commemorative postage stamp and related marking. Accompanying the photographs is a 1978 First Day of Issue cover honoring Mary Pickersgill, maker of the enormous Star-Spangled Banner flag that flew over Fort McHenry, bearing a 15-cent American flag stamp canceled at Baltimore on June 30, 1978, and signed prominently "Bette Davis" in black ink. The glossy photographs and the First day cover comes with an RR cert. The photographs measure 8 x 10 inches; the First Day of Issue cover measures 3.5 x 6.5 inches.
Bette Davis ranks among the most influential screen actresses of Hollywood's Golden Age. Renowned for her intensity, distinctive voice, and willingness to portray complicated and often unsympathetic characters, she built a career spanning more than five decades. Davis won the Academy Award for Best Actress for "Dangerous" in 1936 and "Jezebel" in 1939 and received numerous additional nominations for performances including "Dark Victory," "The Letter," "The Little Foxes," "All About Eve," and "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" Her celebrated battles for stronger roles and greater professional independence also helped establish her reputation as a formidable figure within the studio system. Bringing together multiple signed images from different periods of her screen persona, this collection offers an appealing visual and autograph record of one of the defining actresses of twentieth-century American cinema.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
