⁂ Louis Dutens' copy with 4pp. of autograph notes in French at end and a list of places and dates in French to front free endpaper. Dutens (1730-1812) was a French writer born in Tours, but who spent most of his life in Britain or in British service on the continent, including as tutor to the younger son of the Duke of Northumberland. He was a fellow of the Royal Society and the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres. The Psalms is rare, with ESTC recording a copy at the Bodleian only, and the Bible is scarce with only one US copy recorded at the Folger (8 copies UK).

Provenance: 'Louis Dutens's Bible, 22 February, 1754, London, pret. twenty three shillings...' (ink inscription to front free endpaper); numerous 19th century genealogical inscriptions of a Day family.
