The rose novel by Berthaud d'Achy. Full facsimile of the manuscript Codex Urb. Lat. 376 of the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana. The rose novel was written in Paris around 1280 by Berthaud d'Achy, the main painter and scribe. The famous rose novel tells the story of a love in which the beloved is a rose jealously guarded by attentive guards. However, love in the rose novel is by no means without exception a romantic passion or even courtly love. The women are scourged, the men mocked, the clergy challenged. Obscene and ambiguous is not left out. The manuscript, calligraphed and illuminated with 93 golden miniatures by Berthaud d'Achy, is the most beautiful edition of the famous allegorical love novel. Facsimile tape: Original leather cover with splendid blind embossing and 2 leather clasps. 4 frets. With 93 gold-set miniatures and 624 color initials, some decorated with gold. Format: approx. 34 x 25. 5 cm. Commentary volume: Scientific commentary by Eberhard König and a contribution by Gabriele Bartz. Original linen cover with gold illustration on the spine. 193 pages with many illustrations. Format: approx. 24. 5 x 17. 5 cm. Jewelry box: Magnificent and richly gilded leather box with a mounted ivory replica on the lid. Format: approx. 37 x 28. 5 cm. This splendid edition was strictly limited to only 150 copies worldwide. Number 51 is for sale here. Belser Verlag, Zurich 1987. Perfectly preserved Great edition for all collectors and enthusiasts or a decorative and valuable addition to your library.
