Biggest, Best 10th C. Tang Mortuary Vase
An 1100 year old, early 9th century Chinese temple vase , a holder of the remainsof one of royalty or importance. Lamp mounted now without bottom drilling, (easy to put as only a vase) this extraordinary example is of largest size known. Many smaller and quite lessor examples are in numerous world museums. Eleven relief modeled 'saints surround, with flying phoenix, encircled dragon and small cat. The plump goose finialed cover is included. The greyish-greenish white glaze is standard, the size is an incredible 25" the condition quite wonderful with a few modest chips at bottom rim, a crack line across the goose's neck and tiny wire hole drilled near its foot rim. A museum quality rarity.
