Bil Keane (1922-2011)

[ translate ]

Bill Keane Channel Chuckles Daily Comic Strip Original Art Group of 3 (1960s-'70s). Commercial television was still a novelty (but spreading fast) when Keane launched Channel Chuckles in 1954 as a comedy-of-manners panel, exploiting the popular impact of TV broadcasting. (Keane's The Family Circus followed along in 1960.) Two elements of this selection are undated as to year, but they appear to come from the earlier stages, back when exercise programs (10-26) and visiting TV-repair experts (8-22) were more familiar presences. The panel dated 3-17-75 lampoons a real-world game show, Let's Make a Deal, in light of an economic recession. Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with image areas of approximately 4" x 8.5". One piece is matted as if for framing. Very Good condition. HID09710052018 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
