Black Americana Cast Iron Bank
Height: 6 1/2 inches Width: 2 1/4 inches. This mechanical bank is constructed from heavy cast iron and follows the design of historical Black Americana memorabilia, specifically the Transvaal or Tall Man variant. The bank is rectangular in form with a yellow-painted base decorated with a red and black checkered border. The word BANK is featured on the front in raised, red-painted capital letters. At the top is a stylized head with black-painted skin, white eyes, and prominent red-painted lips. The mouth is open to serve as a coin slot. A red rectangular lever is located on the front of the bank, which would traditionally activate an internal mechanism to move the tongue or eyes when a coin is deposited. The base is a flat, dark-finished plate secured by a single Phillips-head screw. No manufacturer names, patent dates, or country-of-origin marks are visible on the exterior or the baseplate.
