Black lacquered yoroi suit-of-armour - lacquered metal - Japan - Mid Showa period

A Japanese black lacquered yoroi suit-of-armour with dark blue cords and a two piece cuirass (kuro’urushinuri kon’ito nimaidō gosoku) . A slightly conical shaped helmet (shiinari kabuto, shiinari: in the “shape of castanopsis nuts”) with at the sides large water-buffalo horns with gilded points (daisuigyō wakidate kabuto) , gilded small fukikaeshi and in front a gilded maedate in the shape of a pestle (kine) . The helmet has five neck-guards (shikoro) . A black lacquered two-piece facial mask with a white moustache and a crest in relief at the chin (resseibō) . From the mask hangs a five-piece gorget (nodowa) . Below this nodowa is a second two-piece nodowa. Shoulder guards (sode) protect the shoulders and armoured sleeves (kote) show black vertical metal strips on brocade (shinokote) . A two-piece "bucket-shaped" cuirass (okegawa nimaidō) with horizontal laced plates (itazane) . In front of the cuirass hang two yellow tassels and at the back a large yellow tassel. In front of the shoulders hang to the left and the right two so-called apricot leaves (gyōyō) . The upper rims of the cuirass are decorated with strips of so-called “smoked leather”. From the cuirass hangs a skirt of six six-piece kusazuri. The cuisses (haidate) that protect the upper legs consists of laced metal karuta-pieces over brocade. Suneate with metal strips protect the lower legs (shinosuneate) . In a yoroi-box (yoroibako) decorated with a gilded dwarf-bamboo leaf crest inside a circle (maru ni shichi-go-san nezasa) . The suit-of-armour is a copy of the one used by Yamamoto Kansuke (1494?
-1561) , one of the generals of Warlord Takeda Shingen. Yamamoto Kansuke, blind at one eye, was known as a brilliant strategist. Including stand. Lot will be carefully packaged and sent by registered post.
