Bob Dylan Signed 1966 British Tour Program

[ translate ]

Hugely sought-after original program for Bob Dylan's legendary 1966 British Tour, 12 pages, 8 x 10.25, signed and inscribed inside in black ballpoint, “To John Weston, Love always, Bob Dylan.” The program features advertisements, biographical text, a listing of tour dates, a variety of uncommon images, and a dedicated area for the concertgoer to document Dylan's set list, with the original recipient adding song titles from a Dylan concert at the Birmingham Odeon on May 12, 1966. In fine condition. A terrifically appealing vintage program from Dylan's bumpy 1966 tour of England—his decision to play half his set acoustic and the other half electric with a full backing band—comprised of future members of The Band—was not always warmly received; after one particularly boisterous and upset fan called Dylan a 'Judas' at Free Trade Hall in Manchester on May 17, 1966, the songwriter pointedly shouted back 'I don't believe you...you're a liar!,' before turning to his group and directing them to 'Play it f–––in' loud!'_x000D_

John recalled that the concert was an emotional one for everyone concerned. He had met Dylan earlier in the day at the Albany Hotel where he was staying, which was right around the corner from the theatre. Which for a devoted fan like he was, had truly been a memorable experience—but the concert that evening was a real ‘I Was There' occasion. The battle between the traditionalist and electric factions was epic.
